2014 Synod on the Family

Pope Francis is convoking an extraordinary Synod of Bishops in 2014 to discuss the present situation of marriage and family life in the Catholic Church. In that context he is asking the cooperation of all the faithful to gather relevant data that need discussion and, no doubt, revision of church practice.

We are responding to the Pope's appeal in a number of ways.

The Facts

We need to know the facts! We present facts and statistics on key issues of sexual ethics, as far as the facts are known from published sources. We also invite visitors to our website to pass on such data to us if they have them available, or to let us know where further information could be obtained.

People should know the truth! We are publishing the life stories and testimonies of Catholics who face moral issues in their relationships. We focus in particular on questions such as: the use of contraceptives to plan one's family, the situation of divorced and remarried Catholics, and gays or lesbians in close relationships. Catholic Scholars

People should know the truth! With the help of moral theologians we have prepared the Catholic Scholars' Statement on Mariage and the Family. This declaration contains a professional assessment of present Catholic doctrine and practice with regard to sexuality in life and marriage.

"Married love is uniquely expressed and perfected by the exercise of the acts proper to marriage. Hence the acts in martiage by which the intimate and chaste union of the partners takes place are noble and honourable."
